L- Smiling, young attractive male holding books, well presented in informal but smart clothes. Bright colour on dark background is bold and has connotations of youth and modern style which appeals to the young audience. The colours are not typical school colours and look like they may appear on a cool music magazine which suggests that the college is not too academic and is casual and unlike school. The colours also seem to suit the student and match his style which connotes that the college works around students and gives them a positive sense of identity. It also suggests that the college is proud to represent their students as well as the students being proud to represent the college. The contrast also makes the magazine stand out which means that it's more likely to be sold because more people will see it to buy it. MCU shot is used to ensure that the student's expression is visible so the audience can see that he's happy. The audience can also see what the student's wearing so we can make a judgement on his character. Also suggests that the student has nothing to hide. The shot is composed so that the audience can see his books in his hand easily. This means that we can look at the subjects he is studying which gives a representation of what kind of subjects the college offers. These books are for Law, Business and Society; all academic and respected subjects. This gives the impression that the college is respectable and academic because it offers respectable and academic courses. Because of the nature of these courses - you might expect them to be very difficult - you might expect the student to look tired from working a lot. However, he looks fresh faced which suggests that the college doesn't put too much pressure on the students in their subjects. It also suggests that the student has good time management because which might be a result of attending the college. The lighting looks like other camera flashes (paparazzi) which gives the student a star quality. This suggests that the college produces high achieving students who receive recognition for their achievements at the college.
I- College is being represented as stylish and modern with the colours used and clothes that the student is wearing. This shows that the college is modern and stylish which appeals to the audience. If the student was wearing old fashioned clothes, this would not appeal to the audience because it would suggest that the other students at the college are old fashioned therefore young students wouldn't want to go to the college. Learning is being promoted because the student is holding his books and looking proud.
I- Promoting learning, happiness, health, and being an independent young adult through the way the male is represented. Student is black which suggests that the college is not racist.
A- College students. The main image is of a college student and the sell lines are promoting articles that generally appeal to college students.
R- College student is smiling which represents the college as an institution where the people are happy. Student holding books show the student as ready and proud to learn. Student is wearing informal but smart clothing which presents the college's students as being themselves but also being smart and taking pride in their appearance. This shows that the college is improving his confidence as he looks happy and well presented which could well be a result of attending the college. Student is wearing a cross necklace which suggests that the college allows the students to express their religion and therefore isn't prejudiced. It also tells us about the students: Christianity generally has positive connotations e.g. honest, hard working, clean living. This is appealing to the audience as it represents the kind of person that you may mix with if you attend the college. Student is black which shows that the college is not racist and most likely accepts diverse people.
L- Background is a sunny green open space which suggests the college has open relaxing spaces for students to study and socialise. However the student is in the foreground with the background blurred which suggests that the college, though promoting itself, puts the students first and prioritises the promotion of them and their achievements. Student is young, attractive and smiling, with relaxed, confident posture. This is a representation of how the college shapes the students character; gives the promotion of them and their achievements. Student is young, attractive and smiling, with relaxed, confident posture. This is a representation of how the college shapes the students character; gives them confidence and happiness. MCU again allows the audience to clearly see the expression on the students face and how clear and fresh she looks. This shows that the student is not stressed with college work which shows again that the college doesn't pile the work on the students. Also, portraying the student outside of a working environment also suggests that the students have enough time to do things other than working. Colour of title matches the girl's top which presents a consistent house style. This again shows that the college works to represent the students and give them a sense of personal identity.
I- College with happy, well presented students in a nice setting. The font of the title looks like the kind of font used on sports jerseys which suggests that this issue has a focus on sport.
I- The same magazine has two polar opposite kinds of people on the front in different issues which suggests that the college is all inclusive and that diverse people go there for an education and are all recognised for their achievements. The fact that on the issue above focuses on a boy's academic achievements and this issue focuses on this girl's sporting achievements suggests that the college appreciates achievements in various different areas. Furthermore, the fact that a girl is representing the sportier side of the college shows that the college is probably not sexist, as conventionally it's males that represent sports in society. This is ensuring that girls are represented and appreciated in sports at the college, not just mainly males as is generally the norm.
A- College students are the main targeted audience because a college student is represented on the front. Also, the name of the magazine is likely to attract college students as they instantly relate to it. Parents of college students may also be targeted because some of the main stories such as 'Smoking Salvia?' and 'She's 15 and pregnant' may appeal to concerned parents who want to keep updated on what concerns their child may have.
R- The fact that the student is attractive also makes the magazine more marketable as people will be attracted towards it. It also represents the college's female population positively and gives a positive impression of the college. Other girls may look at the magazine and aspire to be like the girl on the front, and males may look at the magazine and be inclined to want to go to the college as there are attractive females there. The green, sunny background makes the college look appealing as it's being shown in it's prime. If the background showed a muddy field with bare trees in dreary weather, it wouldn't make the college look appealing. The green has connotations of good health and life, which represents the college as a place where life is thriving. It also makes the girl's top and the text stand out as red and green are colour opposites, which gives a representation of how the college sees the students; as important aspects of the college who stand out from the rest.
